The introduction of several technologies and innovations have brought some vital changes inthe various industries in India. The Pharma Industry is also not unimpaired of these transformations. The research and development (R&D) sector in the pharmaceuticals haveseen some changes and will see many more in the next decade. It has resulted in providing cheaper and consumer-oriented medicines and medical equipment benefiting both the consumers and the stakeholders. The upcoming trends are going to change the future of the Pharma Industry in India. Some of which are mentioned below:

Use of Artificial Intelligence:

Artificial intelligence will totally change the way of developing medicines. There will be a time when humans and animals will not be needed anymore for medicinal trials. Various biotechnological and genomic research will be conducted through specialized computers and programs. Therefore, analysing and observing the results of a medicinal drug will be quick. Usually, where it takes 6 to 8 months to observe the consequences through human testing, the researchers will be able to get that within a few seconds or minutes.

3D Printing:

That day is not so far when 3D printed medicines will be available to cure diseases. Actually, it has already happened in the year 2015, where a medicinal drug was 3D printed successfully which was truly effective. This was a major transformation in the Pharmaceutical Industry. Also, there is a research and development program going on at the University College of London, where they are trying to make 3D-printed pills in the shapes of playful characters for kids. Thus, it would be easier for the kids to take these pills.

Augmented Reality (AR) & Virtual Reality (VR):

Some pharmaceutical companies are working on an AR-based technology to make patients more aware of the effects and the use of their medicines just by looking at the prescription and description printed on the drugs through it. With the help of VR technology, the possibilities of remote treatment are being researched with 100% accuracy. The remote treatment or virtual treatment will be primarily done for normal diseases and pain but not applicable for fatal diseases. Once this method is adopted in our country, it will be a turning point for the Pharma Industry in India.

Body Sensors:

There are body sensors that have already been developed and are under the testing process. These sensors are either going to be installed on or inside the human body to track and monitor the regular health of a patient. If any damage or dysfunction is diagnosed, it will send a message to the doctor or caretaker of that patient. This is one of the greatest innovations in the Pharmaceutical Industry.

There is one sensor that is currently being used inside the pills and capsules to monitor the digestion and effects of that medicine inside the human body. These sensors are named digestible sensors.

Precision Medicines:

The precision medicines are being developed with an idea that each drug responds slightly different to various human bodies. The concept of precision medicines is to consider each patient individually. One of the uses of the digestible sensor, mentioned above, is to collect this data and help the pharmacist to develop the most suitable medicine for individual patients. You must be thinking that it's going to be very complicated, you’re right! That’s where the 3D printed medicines can be used.

The Pharma Industry is growing rapidly. Looking at the upcoming trends, it can be said that the patients have an upper hand in the entire process. With the use of the new technology, patients can have a better understanding of the disease as well as the treatment. These transformations are taking the Pharmaceutical Industry to a completely different level.
